Stoneham School Building Committee Approves $4.1 Million Warrant and Energy Performance Contract

STONEHAM — June 16, 2025 — Stoneham School Building Committee approves $4.1 million warrant and backs student garden proposal at new high school. The committee unanimously approved warrant article 67 totaling $4,100,709.18 at its June 16 meeting, with the largest share — $3,820,547.25 — going to general contractor Consigli Construction, alongside fees for Perkins and Will and SMMA and $52,499.77 in liquidated damages. The committee also unanimously voted to hire Intervalville Data Systems for an 18-month energy performance engagement at $110,000, aimed at driving the building's energy use intensity from a current 48 down to the design target of 25 — a shift that would cut annual energy costs from roughly $500,000 to $230,000 and unlock a MassSave incentive of more than $200,000. A punch list working group's recommendation to accept $58,500 in credits for two construction deficiencies — misaligned sag rods in Spartan Place and an exposed sprinkler line beneath the monumental stair — also passed unanimously. Stoneham High School Green Club co-presidents Rarika Patel and Chloe Shobbs won a unanimous committee vote to partner with Perkins and Will and the School Committee to identify land for a student-managed outdoor learning garden. The meeting closed with unresolved frustration over the building's interior branding package, particularly a large monumental staircase wall featuring text from Homer's Odyssey that committee members called illegible, with any reprint unlikely before 2026.
