Select Board adopts updated social media policy
Select Board · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Stoneham Select Board adopts social media policy, debates e-bike crackdown and communications hire. The board voted unanimously to approve a revised social media policy after a Town Counsel review, while Member Troy M. Lau pushed for tougher enforcement against reckless electric bike riding, citing talks with Police Chief O'Connor and a statewide "Ride Safe Act" proposal that would set four speed-based tiers for riders.
Vice Chair David P. Pignone Jr. argued the town should fund a communications specialist position, pointing to Andover's $65,000-to-$80,000 model, with a cost estimate due back for the October 19 Town Meeting warrant. New Director of Public Works Kevin Duffy reported the Stoneham Square downtown redesign's underground utility work is complete, with curbing and sidewalks now underway.
The board also previewed a $231,750 transfer from the special education reimbursement trust fund for the Town Meeting warrant and approved two one-day liquor licenses, including an Oct. 1 Chamber of Commerce Oktoberfest beer garden.
