STONEHAM -- June 23, 2026, Stoneham Select Board accepts a $23,974 sound system gift and advances beer and wine talks for Unicorn Golf Course. The board unanimously accepted a donation from the town's 300th Anniversary Committee for a permanent outdoor public address system, including three wireless microphones and a soundboard, for the Town Common and gazebo. Jay Miller, director of golf course operations for Sterling Golf Management, presented a proposal for a beer, wine, and seltzer license at the nine-hole Unicorn Golf Course, projecting town revenue of $18,000 to $30,000 annually with no startup cost to Stoneham; the board voted 5-0 to direct Town Administrator Dennis Sheehan to begin formal negotiations. The board also approved $881,361 in fiscal year 2026 end-of-year budget transfers, with snow and ice removal accounting for $544,748, and closed a contentious public hearing on a sober living home at 3-5 Gould Street, where neighbors raised concerns about parking, maintenance, and pest control, without taking a vote, as town counsel confirmed the use is allowed by right under fair housing law.
