School Committee Backs $269,500 for Chimney Repairs

School Committee · Meeting of October 8, 2026

Stoneham School Committee backed $269,500 toward central school chimney repairs and approved a $335,244.82 warrant. Cory Mashburn walked members through two Oct. 19 town meeting articles, including the chimney funding, which SEEM Collaborative will match 50-50 under its lease; Melanie Fiore was the lone abstention. The committee also voted unanimously to support Article 10, transferring $231,750 in Medicaid and state special-education reimbursements into the district's trust fund.

A $230,322 payroll budget transfer was tabled after Fiore said the starting figures predated the committee's April 30 cost-center vote: "I think it would make more sense to table this vote until we can see the April 30 numbers lined up." The committee accepted an $8,500 Stoneham Bank grant for middle school STEM clubs and a Rotary Club book donation for second graders, and closed out a multiyear policy revision project by adopting, renaming and rescinding several facility and communications policies.
