Stoneham School Committee approves revised student policies, tables fundraising rule
School Committee · Meeting of August 19, 2026
Stoneham School Committee approves revised student policies, tables a new fundraising rule for further review. Meeting virtually August 19, the five-member committee voted 5-0 to adopt updated Section J student policies, while holding off rescinding five others, including the attendance policy, until handbook language is finalized. Member Cory Mashburn told the board the district's elementary, middle and high school handbooks currently use different attendance wording, saying, "It's just, I personally would feel more comfortable not rescinding something until I see it somewhere else." A proposed new fundraising policy, JJE, was pulled entirely, with one member asking, "How does the fundraising get spent?" and requesting the finance subcommittee weigh in before it returns.
The committee also voted 5-0 to make the new policies, plus previously approved Section D and K policies, effective September 1, 2026.
