Stoneham Select Board Sets December 9 Override Election, Moves Town Meeting to 6:30 p.m.

STONEHAM — September 23, 2025 — Stoneham Select Board unanimously sets December 9 override election, moves Town Meeting start time to 6:30 p.m. The board voted 5-0 Tuesday to hold a Proposition 2½ override special election on December 9, 2025, rejecting a January alternative urged by Town Clerk Maria, who warned that the December date is "very tight" and that finalized property assessments needed for a tax-impact calculator won't be available until late November or December. Board member Ryan countered that further delay prolongs uncertainty over whether the town will have "a library next year" or enough school staff and public safety personnel. The board also voted unanimously to place acceptance of MGL Chapter 53, Section 18B — authorizing a locally produced voter information mailing — on the October 20 Town Meeting warrant, and to move that meeting's start time to 6:30 p.m. to allow a post-meeting public engagement session on the override. Town Administrator Dennis announced a separate $500,000 MassDOT Complete Streets grant awarded to the town for pedestrian and signal improvements at the Summer Street and Marble Street intersection near Stoneham's school corridor. The capital committee's October Town Meeting recommendation was set at $772,000, covering a fire station generator, police cruiser, front-end loader, road and sidewalk funds, Whip Hill repairs, and public safety radio equipment.
