Four Charged In Stoneham Stabbing After Lengthy Investigation

Town committees resume a busy meeting schedule this week even as commercial outlets report on a criminal case with roots in town, and the library rolls out its August lineup of author talks and drop-in programs.

TOWN HALL

The town's scholarship deadline has been pushed back, giving residents pursuing an educational goal more time to apply. The Stoneham Town Scholarship Committee is accepting letters of application from residents for a $1,000 scholarship, with the deadline now extended to August 7.

Riders on the Stoneham Shuttle should take note of a coming change to how trips get booked. Starting August 1, 2026, all shuttle rides must be requested through the new Ride Circuit mobile app, replacing the previous Circuit Transit Stoneham app.

The Stevens Street Recycling Center has posted its hours through November 30, 2026, for residents planning drop-offs, a detail the town's News Flash also covered previously. Downtown Stoneham construction work that began Monday, July 6 continues to affect the area, according to the town's website.

SCHOOLS

Two School Committee subcommittees are on the calendar this week. The Policy Subcommittee meets by remote participation on Wednesday, August 5, and the Budget Subcommittee meets Thursday, August 6, according to the town calendar.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Stoneham Public Library has a full slate of programs running through the month. Drop-in Tech Support sessions continue on multiple mornings, including August 5, 7, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, 21, 26 and 28, each running from 10 a.m. to noon.

Book lovers can catch the Mysteries Around the World Book Group on Wednesday, August 6, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., followed by a Documentary Wow! Discussion on August 12 and Chess Club for Adults on August 13. Later in the month, the library hosts author talks with Beronda Montgomery on August 25 and Lucy Foley on August 27, both from 2 to 3 p.m., along with Film Club on August 26 and the Enchanted Pages Society on August 27.
