Late Risers Jazz Band Headlines Stoneham Chamber Summer Concert Series

STONEHAM — August 3, 2023 — The Late Risers, a Boston-based traditional jazz quartet, headlined the Stoneham Chamber of Commerce Summer Concert Series on the town common Thursday, August 3. Bandleader Sam Deshane led John Clark on clarinet and saxophone, Tev Stevig on banjo, and Josiah Rebstein on tuba through two sets of 1920s-through-1940s jazz and swing, including "Basin Street Blues," "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)," and a crowd-walking "Bourbon Street Parade." Electro-swing artist Valerie Giulio opened with a set that included an original track mixing her vocals with archival recordings of the late Boston jazz pianist Al Vega. At intermission, former chamber Executive Director Sharon Iover and current Executive Director Megan Day presented concert committee chair Debbie Catalano with a framed certificate and flowers marking her 20 years of leading the series. The evening also debuted a beer garden on Church Street, a first for the concert series. The final concert of the 2023 summer season, featuring classic rock and pop band Fun Bucket, is scheduled for August 10.
