Greater Boston Stage Company Students Preview Summer Musicals at Stoneham Concert Series
STONEHAM — July 25, 2024 — Greater Boston Stage Company's Young Company previewed three summer musicals at the Stoneham Chamber of Commerce Summer Concert Series on July 25. Debbie Catalano, chair of the series, emceed the evening on the town common, which featured student performers from the Young Company across three age-grouped casts — Act One presenting Seussical Junior, Act Two presenting High School Musical, and Act Three previewing Once Upon a Mattress. Heather Mell, operations manager of Greater Boston Stage Company, told the crowd students rehearse "8:30 to 2:30 Monday through Friday for four weeks" before performing full productions. Sounds Like Chicken, a 12-piece rock-and-roll band with a horn section, made its series debut as the closing act after lending its audio equipment to the student performers. Raffle winners included Sarah Amado and Barry Gluntz, each receiving $50 Aviva Trattoria gift certificates, while four tickets to a Greater Boston Stage summer festival show went to Mandy Magie. The next concert in the series is scheduled for August 1, featuring Sea Breeze on Italian night.
