Stoneham Housing Production Plan Wins Approval
STONEHAM — Beaches across Massachusetts, including in the region, were closed to swimming this weekend following torrential rain and a Merrimack River sewage overflow, according to Patch, while Stoneham's library rolled out a busy slate of summer programming and two state lawmakers touted new legislation on literacy and energy costs.

The Stoneham Public Library has a full summer calendar underway. An Adult Chess Club meets Wednesday, July 9, from 7 to 8 p.m., with Drop-in Tech Support sessions offered July 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24 and 31, each running 10 a.m. to noon. Teens can attend Teen Trivia Night: Weird but True on July 13 from 5 to 5:45 p.m.
Author talks are a highlight of the coming weeks: bestselling novelist Karin Slaughter appears July 14 from 7 to 8 p.m., followed by a Documentary Wow! Discussion on July 15 and author Reyna Grande on July 16. The library's Friday Movie Matinee returns July 17 from 1 to 4:30 p.m., and the Mid-Summer Faire is set for July 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. Additional programming includes "Farm Girl on the Front Lines: Deborah Sampson's Secret" on July 21 and a Film Club session July 22.
